Communication
This is one domain that develops over time and is a way that students absorb language. The ability to read is extremely important for learning in the classroom and beyond.
Reading
This domain of language is one of the last to develop for many students. However, it is extremely important in being able to communicate in a language. Being able to write in a language will help students to achieve on several levels beyond basic communication.
Writing
This area of language is the first for most students to be able to express themselves. It is extremely important that students practice speaking even if they make mistakes. Speaking may begin with gestures but soon develops into words, phrases and sentences.
Speaking
Listening
This is one of the first ways that students begin to acquire a language. Before they ever say a word, student take in what is being said and done around them. Listening skills are essential to being able to communicate in a language.
